BEST BEACHES IN SEYCHELLES

I’m only sticking to the beaches in Mahé, Seychelles since I was on a tight budget and could choose only one island to visit. But, the neighboring islands of La Digue and Praslin also has some of the most beautiful and unique beaches which you should definitely add to your list of best things to do in Seychelles

Getting to the beaches is very easy and cheap since there are bus stations at every single beach in Mahé, Seychelles. A single bus ticket will cost only SCR 7 (US$ 0.50) per trip, making it the perfect budget option to explore Seychelles beaches! You could also hire a car from US$ 40.

CARANA BEACH

Let’s get right into this Seychelles beach guide with the beautiful Carana Beach! It can be quite hard to find the entrance to this beach since it’s not visible from the road. Keep an eye out for a small opening in between the trees. When you find a big sign warning about the strong waves, you just need to follow the path and jump over the boulders to access Carana beach.

Part of the beach is owned by Carana Beach Hotel but you can still enjoy the beach for free.

ANSE NORD D’EST

My number one favorite beach in Seychelles is hands down Anse Nord D’est! Not only is the sand extremely soft and white, but the massive boulders on the left side of the beach look amazing in pictures!

When I was there in September, the waves were very strong which added to the beauty of the beach and you could find a few surfers trying to catch some waves in the distance.

The bus station is located right on the beach, making it easy to get to. There are a few parking spaces available as well.

BEAU VALLON BEACH

Beau Vallon Beach is one of the largest and most popular beaches in Seychelles. This is the most tourist-friendly beach with lots of budget hotels and guesthouses, supermarkets and a few restaurants.

A few activities are also available in Beau Vallon, such as parasailing, kite surfing and snorkeling. During nighttime, you can even taste some delicious street food along the beach.

Keep in mind that the beach may get seaweeds during certain time of the year. The seaweed brushing against my feet kind of freaked me out a few times but it wasn’t that big of a deal. The waves were not too strong, so it was one of the few swimmable beaches in Seychelles.

ANSE MAJOR

Part of the fun of getting to Anse Major beach is by hiking along the Anse Major trail which offers breathtaking views over the Indian Ocean on one side and mountains on the opposite.

From Beau Vallon Police station, take the “Bel Ombre” bus until the very the end of the road at the last bus station.

The beginning of the trail is found about one kilometer away and goes mostly uphill, but worth the extra pain! Once you reach the main trail, the hike is fairly easy and accessible for anyone.

If you’re not up for a hike you can arrange a taxi boat to Anse Major, but keep in mind that it can be expensive.

PORT LAUNAY

Home to the Constance Ephelia Resort, Port Launay is a small bay located in the northwest of Seychelles. The calm and shallow water makes it suitable for families with kids.

The powdery white sand beach has enough shady spots to relax and is great if you want to do some snorkeling as well.

If you want to have lunch, you can go to Island Café near Port Glaud for some delicious creole dishes for only SCR 60 (US$ 4.40)!

SUNSET BEACH

Sunset Beach is a small bay that is perfect for, you guessed it, sunset watching! The beach can be accessed from the Sunset Beach Hotel or a small dirt path further up the road. Just tell the security guard that you’re going to the beach and he will let you through for free.

When I was there in early September, it was almost impossible to swim due to the strong current, so you can just relax under the shades and enjoy the gorgeous sunset.

There is no parking space available, so if you’re coming from Beau Vallon, take the “Glacis” bus and ask to be dropped off at the nearby bus station.

ANSE INTENDANCE

Anse Intendance is rated as one of the most beautiful beaches in Seychelles! The beach is not visible from the road but can be reached by going through a small dirt path.

During the months of May to September, it can be dangerous to swim here due to the extremely strong waves. Despite of that, the white sand beach and big rock formations make for a beautiful postcard picture of Seychelles!

ANSE LA MOUCHE

Although not that great for swimming due to the shallow water, there are a few seats along Anse à la Mouche where you can relax and enjoy the view and quiet atmosphere.

If you’re already staying in the area or going further down the south coast, you can make a stop here to watch the sunset and get some photos.

ANSE ROYALE

Anse Royale is located in the southeast of Seychelles. The coral reefs protect the bay from strong waves ensuring for a safe swim. You can even swim to the few smaller islands found just a few meters from the shore.

Anse Royale is located in a lively area with enough facilities such as gas station, ATMs, hotels, restaurants and parking spaces. Along with Beau Vallon Beach, Anse Royale is another beach where you can base yourself during your stay on Mahé Island.

WHERE TO STAY IN MAHE, SEYCHELLES

Looking for the perfect budget hotel in Seychelles? Lemongrass Lodge is found only a few meters from Beau Vallon beach with an amazing view of the ocean!

You can choose between different types of bungalows and villas at Lemongrass Lodge for any budget. I stayed in the Zanbrosa Apartment for about US$ 83 per night. I really loved the clean and spacious room which came with a fully equipped kitchen, two double beds and free Wi-Fi.

Check prices and availability for Lemongrass Lodge here.

There are so many beautiful beaches in Seychelles and visiting every single one of them could take weeks! These are nine of the best beaches that I was able to visit in just three days and if you have more days in Seychelles you could add more beaches to your itinerary.
