Most Instagrammable Places in KL
Petronas Twin Towers
The Petronas Towers are the tallest twin towers in the world and by far the most iconic Kuala Lumpur Instagram spot.
You do need to reserve your ticket in advance if you want to go up to the observation deck as they sell out fast but seeing the building from the outside is completely free.

Most people will do their photoshoot in front of the twin towers but this particular spot can be very crowded.
Also, there are usually people here who will want you to rent their wide-angle lens for a fee and even if you decline nicely, they will still try to photobomb your shot.
To avoid this, I recommend taking your photos from the KLCC park or Saloma Link Bridge (mentioned below). Both of these spots are usually less crowded and provide excellent views of the building.
You can do your photoshoot at any time of the day but your photos will pop even more at night when the twin towers are all lit up.
If you’re coming from Bukit Bintang, you can easily get to this KL photography spot on foot by taking the KLCC – Bukit Bintang Pedestrian Walkway located inside Pavilion mall. It should then take only about 15-20 minutes to get there.
Skybridge and observation deck opening hours: 10 a.m to 6 p.m from Tuesdays to Sundays.
Saloma Link Bridge
Saloma Link Bridge was opened only recently in 2020 but has definitely earned its spot on this list of the most Instagrammable places in KL.
Floating above the Klang River, the bridge provides the perfect vantage point for photographing the Petronas Twin Towers.
For the best photos, make sure to visit at night when the bridge is all lit up with over 4,000 LED lights!
While you’re in the area, I also recommend exploring the local neighborhood, Kampung Baru, and sampling a delicious Nasi Lemak dish at Nasi Lemak Wanjo Kg Baru.
KL Tower Skybox
KL Tower (or Menara Tower) is one of the tallest buildings in the city standing at a height of 421 meters.
The main attraction here is the Skybox which is a glass box that extends out of the building. It’s not for the faint-hearted though as the floor is completely transparent and looks out to the city below.
KL Tower is open between 10 a.m and 10 p.m but the best time to visit is toward sunset when the city is just starting to light up. Make sure to book your tickets in advance by clicking the link below to get a discount.

KL Forest Eco Park
The KL Forest Eco Park is a little oasis located right in the heart of the city and a great Instagram spot in Kuala Lumpur that you should check out.
Featuring several walking trails and canopy bridges overlooking the skyscrapers, it’s the perfect place to visit if you need a break from the bustling city.
The park is open daily from 8 a.m to 5.30 p.m and entrance costs RM 40 for tourists or RM 10 for Malaysians.
If you’re already visiting KL Tower, you can easily get to KL Forest Eco Park on foot. Alternatively, you can take the bus or hire a Grab taxi to get there.
Batu Caves
No list of the best Instagrammable Kuala Lumpur spots would be complete without mentioning the Batu Caves which is a series of limestone caves housing a collection of Hindu temples and shrines.
Although they are located slightly outside of the city center, there are well worth visiting especially since the stairs have been repainted in rainbow colors.
If you don’t want too many people in your shot, be sure to visit at least before 9 a.m. I also don’t recommend using a tripod to take photos if you’re alone as there are lots of monkeys and they might steal your camera.
Entry to the main cave/temple complex is free but both the Ramayana Cave and Cave Villa require a small fee.
I found conflicting info online about the operating hours of the Batu Caves but when I visited, I entered through Gate 1 and saw a sign saying that it’s open from 5.45 a.m to 9 p.m.
You can easily get there by Grab or the KTM Komuter train. Taking a guided tour is another great option as hotel transfers are included in the tour price.
Thean Hou Temple
Another best place to take photos in KL is the beautiful Thean Hou Temple, located atop a hill just outside of Little India.
Adorned by hundreds of colorful lanterns, the temple provides a panoramic view of the city skyline and will definitely add some color to your Instagram feed.
The six-tier temple is free to visit and houses several statues of dragons and Chinese deities.
The temple is open daily from 8 a.m to 10 p.m but I highly recommend visiting as soon as it opens since it gets pretty busy throughout the day.
The best way to get there is to hire a Grab taxi. Otherwise, you can go there by public transportation but note that you’ll be dropped off along the main road and it’s a bit of an uphill walk to the temple.
Putra Mosque
Located about 40 km outside of KL city center, Putra Mosque is well worth a day trip if you want to see one of the most beautiful mosques in Malaysia.
This pink mosque is situated at the edge of a man-made lake and almost looks like it’s floating on the water. The inside is even more stunning with pink mosaic and stained glass windows.
Before entering the mosque, it’s important to note that women should cover their shoulders and knees and wear a headscarf. If you don’t have the appropriate attire, you can borrow a robe for free near the entrance.
To get the best view of the mosque, I recommend heading to Putra Bridge. But if you want to get even closer, you can take a boat ride across the lake for a small fee.
To get there, the best and cheapest option is to take a train to Putrajaya Sentral followed by a bus or Grab taxi.
Putra Mosque is open daily from 6 a.m to 10 p.m and is free to visit outside of prayer times.
Merdeka 118
The latest addition to the KL skyline is the Merdeka 118 which is now the tallest building in Kuala Lumpur.
The building can be seen from almost anywhere in the city and stands out with its imposing blue façade and striking design.
The most popular place to photograph the Merdeka 118 is from an alleyway in Chinatown KL. You can find it by searching Old Kuala Lumpur Street Art on Google Maps. Just make sure to visit early in the morning as it can get busy.

Kwai Chai Hong
One of my favorite Instagrammable places in KL is Kwai Chai Hong. Located in Chinatown, this small alleyway features a collection of interactive murals illustrating scenes from the locals’ daily lives during the 1960s golden era of Chinatown.
Here you’ll find colorful lanterns hanging from the trees, paintings of children playing, and an old man playing a traditional Chinese instrument, among others. I love this spot as you can pose with the street art and pretend like you’re part of the scene.
Tip: There are numerous local restaurants, bars, and cafes scattered all around Kwai Chai Hong. I highly recommend trying the crispy chicken bao at Da Bao restaurant.
Bukit Bintang Street Art
When I first visited KL back in 2017, there was barely any street art in the city center. But when I went back recently, I was pleasantly surprised to find more street art popping up.
In an attempt to revive certain parts of the city and to attract more tourists, several artists were commissioned to paint some funky and colorful murals around Bukit Bintang.
These can be found along Changkat, Jalan Berangan, and Jalan Rembia (opposite Jalan Alor Food Street).
So don’t forget your camera and spend the next 1-2 hours shooting photos against some of the most colorful backdrops.

Perdana Botanical Garden
If you’re on a budget and don’t want to spend RM 40 to visit the KL Forest Eco Park, you can instead go to Perdana Botanical Garden since it requires no entrance fee.
The garden is huge so you would need at least 3-4 hours to explore the main areas. If you’re short on time, I recommend visiting only Laman Perdana.
This spot is famous for its yellow tree-like structure which makes for some cool photos. Plus, it has a nice view of the lake with the skyline in the background.
If you have more time, the bird park and butterfly park are also located nearby and worth a visit if you’re traveling with kids.
The best way to get there is to take a Grab. I wouldn’t recommend using public transportation as you’ll still have to walk quite a bit to get to the garden.
River of Life
River of Life is a waterfront area located close to Chinatown and features a pedestrian walkway, water fountains, cafes, and colorful murals.
The main reason why River of Life is one of the best photo locations in KL is that it provides the perfect vantage point for photographing Masjid Jamek. If you’d like to visit the mosque, they offer tours from Saturday to Thursday between 10 a.m and 12.30 p.m and 2.30 p.m and 4 p.m.
This spot is a must-visit especially at night during the light show as the river gets covered with a blanket of mists and blue lights.
Sultan Abdul Samad Building
Another great spot to take photos in KL is Merdeka Square where Malaysia proclaimed its independence in 1957.
This area is surrounded by several historical buildings with the most famous one being the Sultan Abdul Samad Building.
Thanks to its sticking architecture and pinkish façade, it makes the perfect backdrop for Instagram photos.
The closest train station is Masjid Jamek LRT Station, located about a 5-minute walk away.
