What to Eat at Jonker Street Night Market?
The Jonker street foods are super delicious! From traditional Nyonya dishes like laksa to BBQ skewers, dim sums, egg tarts, and even sushi, you’ll be spoilt for choice.
Note: I found mostly finger foods and snacks at the night market but if you’re looking for something more filling, you can head toward the end of Jonker Street where most of the sit-down restaurants are found.
Here’s a list of the best foods to eat at Jonker Street Night Market:
BBQ Skewers
I saw those at almost every other stall. These BBQ meatballs, sausages, or seafood are super delicious and some of them are glazed with a sweet BBQ or chili sauce.
The price isn’t the same everywhere but the cheapest one I found is located near the entrance.
Price: From RM 4 for 1 stick or RM 10 for 3 sticks

Coconut Balls
The coconut ball stall is the very first one you’ll see when you enter Jonker Night Market. If you’re lucky, you can even catch a performance of the vendors juggling coconut balls.
Price: From RM 8
Coconut Shake
You can find coconut shakes at every corner of Melaka but the best one is sold at the coconut ball stall.
Price: From RM 5
Coconut Ice Cream
Coconut ice cream is one of my favorite desserts ever! They are usually served inside a coconut husk with coconut flesh and all sorts of toppings like peanuts and chocolate sprinkles or sauce.
Price: From RM 10

BBQ Quail Eggs on a stick
It might seem kind of strange to eat eggs on a stick but there were many stalls selling them, so they must be really popular. You can have it topped with chili or tomato sauce, mayonnaise, or cheese. Some of them also have pieces of sausage on top.
Price: From RM 4 for 1 stick or RM 10 for 3 sticks
Mango Smoothie
The weather in Melaka is usually very hot, so if you’re looking for a cold refreshing drink, I recommend getting a mango smoothie with fresh mango chunks.
The one I bought had too much ice, so if you don’t want to get brain freeze, make sure to ask for less ice.
Price: From RM 4 (small); RM 6 (with mango chunks); RM 10 (big)

Mango Sticky Rice
I always thought that mango sticky rice was only available in Thailand but I was pleased to find it in Melaka. Fresh mango pieces coupled with sticky rice and topped with coconut milk! Absolutely delicious!
Price: From RM 10
Tornado Twist Potato
The Tornado twist potato is one of the most popular foods to eat at Jonker Street Night Market.
It’s basically a deep-fried potato twisted around a stick and topped with BBQ or cheese powder. You can also have it with chili or tomato sauce, mayonnaise, or even black pepper sauce.
Price: From RM 6 for 1 stick or RM 10 for 2 sticks
Dim Sum
Mr Pau’s dim sums are super popular and can be found toward the end of the night market.
Price: From RM 5 for 4 pieces

Sweet Corn
You can also get a bowl of sweet corn at the same stall that sells the tornado twist potato. You can have it with butter and salt or sweet condensed milk.
Price: From RM 5
Popcorn
Malaysia has some of the best popcorn I’ve ever tasted!
Price: From RM 8 (small); Rm 16 (big); RM 22 (jumbo size)
Egg Tart
Don’t forget to sample the delicious egg tarts which consist of creamy custard filling inside a pastry crust.
Price: From RM 2.5

Sweet Potato Balls
These deep-fried sweet potato balls are another must-try at Jonker Street!
Price: From RM 5 for 10 pieces
Half Shell Oysters
I’m not a big fan of oysters so I didn’t try this one but if you love seafood, you can buy a half-shell oyster for only RM 5 each. If you buy 10 pieces, you’ll get one free.
Price: From RM 5 per piece

Nyonya Laksa
Laksa is a spicy noodle dish that consists of a creamy broth made up of coconut milk and curry paste and topped with pieces of tofu, prawns, or chicken.
You can find the stall toward the end of Jonker Street (here’s the location on Google Maps). Make sure to go early to grab a spot since it’s quite popular.
Price: From RM 7 or RM 8

Things to do at Jonker Street during the day
Jonker Street is also quite busy during the day. The whole street is lined with clothing and souvenir stores, cafés, and restaurants. My favorite café is The Daily Fix which serves the most delicious pandan pancakes.
There’s also a couple of street art along Jonker Walk and nearby (make sure to read my Melaka street art guide + map for more details).
One of the most popular attractions near Jonker Walk is the Dutch or Red Square which is home to the Christ Church, St Paul’s Hill, A Famosa Fort, and the Stadthuys.
You can also take a walk along Jalan Tukang Besi to see the Chinese temples, Sri Poyyatha Vinayaga Moorthy temple, and Kampung Kling Mosque.

May I know does the Jonker Street Night Market open on the first day of Chinese New Year (22nd Jan 2023, Sunday)? Thanks
Hi Jeremy, from past reviews I’ve read on Google, it’s usually open during the Chinese New Year celebrations but there might be fewer stalls.
Do you have any recommendations of Pasar Pagi, sunday markets and antique markets?
Hi Sim. Sorry, I haven’t been to this particular market.
