Best Places to Stay in Ao Nang by Area

I’ve been visiting Ao Nang regularly for the last 6 years and in this guide, I’m going to share my insider tips about the best areas to stay in Ao Nang along with my recommendations for the best Ao Nang hotels.

I’ll also explain a bit about each area and the best things to do in each so you can decide which one suits you best according to your travel style and needs.

But before diving deeper into this guide, here’s a quick overview of the best places to stay in Ao Nang:

Ao Nang Beach: For easy access to the beach and islands. Find a list of hotels on Ao Nang Beach here

Ao Nang Village (Walking Street): Lively neighborhood with lots of hotels, restaurants, bars, and shops. Best for budget travelers who still want to be within walking distance of the beach. Find a list of hotels in Ao Nang Village here

Nopparat Thara Beach: Quiet area of Ao Nang with facilities like restaurants, shops, and a night market. Great for those wishing to avoid crowds. Find a list of hotels on Nopparat Thara Beach here

Ao Nang Beach

If you want to be close to the beach and visit the nearby islands, Ao Nang Beach should be your number 1 choice for where to stay in Ao Nang Krabi.

It provides easy access to some of the best attractions in Ao Nang like the 4 Island hopping tour, Railay Beach, Koh Phi Phi, and Koh Hong Island.

Tip: There are two boat shuttle offices at each end of the beach located here and here.

On Ao Nang Beach, you’ll find a huge selection of local and international restaurants as well as bars, shops, and convenience stores like 7-11.

Another reason why I love this area is because of the lively atmosphere, especially in the evening – there are always people hanging around enjoying the sunset and watching the fire shows (which are free by the way!).

Getting around is also easy thanks to the public bus (50-150 baht per trip) that runs every 10 minutes. The bus stop is found along the main road and is easily recognizable by the monkey sculptures.

Alternatively, you can get around by tuk tuk, Grab taxi, or motorbike.

Aonang Princeville Villa Resort & Spa: This stunning 4-star resort is the perfect place for a luxury stay in Ao Nang. The rooms are very spacious and decorated with a mix of modern and traditional Thai-style décor. If you want to splurge, you can book their private pool villa which has a view of the ocean and karst mountains. Check rates here.

The L Resort Krabi: This hotel with a swimming pool is located less than 10 m from the beach. The rooms are equipped with air-con, TV, kettle, desk, and toiletries in the bathroom. Ao Nang Village

Known as the tourist center of Ao Nang, Ao Nang village has the highest concentration of hotels, shops, restaurants, and bars as well as a few night markets/food courts.

It’s also within walking distance of the beach and longtail boat pier, so great for those wishing to do day trips to the islands.

One thing to note is that this area is always very busy, especially at night, so I don’t recommend staying directly on the main road if you want to avoid the noise.

I’ve found quite a lot of budget hotels here so if you need to save money, this would be the best place to stay in Ao Nang.

Recommended places to stay in Ao Nang Village:

Luxury:

Ao Nang Cliff Resort: The main draw of this hotel is no doubt its infinity pool with a panoramic view of Ao Nang Beach. They provide double rooms, family rooms, and private pool villas, with breakfast included in the room rate. While the hotel is just a few steps from the main road, it’s very quiet at night. Check rates here.

Mid-Range:

Sea Seeker Krabi Resort: For something more affordable, look no further than the Sea Seeker, located only about a 15-minute walk to the beach. This hotel has a breathtaking view of the limestone cliffs and features a massive swimming pool and rooms with double or twin beds. They also have connecting rooms for families, a kids club, and a kids pool. The hotel is located off the main road, meaning it’s quiet at night. Check rates here.

Wake Up Ao Nang: Located along the main road, about 200 m from the beach, the hotel features beautifully decorated private rooms overlooking the mountains or ocean. They also have mixed and female-only dorms for budget travelers. It can be a bit noisy at night since it’s located along the main road, so be sure to request a room on the upper floors. Check rates here.

Budget:

J Hotel: This is one of my favorite budget hotels in Ao Nang. The location is great – only 300 meters from the beach and near restaurants and shops but still quiet at night. My room was on the top floor and had a panoramic view of the ocean and mountains. The room is basic but comfortable and clean and has either a fan or air-con. The only downside is that there’s no lift. Check rates here.

Seaworld Guesthouse: This is another place I stayed at recently. Similar to J Hotel, it’s located right in the middle of the action and within walking distance of the beach. For about USD 20 per night, you get a private room with a double bed or two twin beds, fan, mini-fridge, bathroom, and balcony. Check rates here.

Pop-In Hostel: If you’re looking for a cheap hostel, I highly recommend Pop-In. They have both mixed and female-only dorms with curtains on each bed for privacy. The bathrooms are clean and they have a common room where you can hang out with other travelers. Since this isn’t a party hostel, I was able to get a good night’s sleep for the whole four days I was there. It’s a bit of a walk to the beach though (about 15 minutes) but quiet at night. Check rates here.

Nopparat Thara Beach

If you’re wondering where to stay in Ao Nang for families, I highly recommend Nopparat Thara Beach, located about a 20-minute walk or a 5-minute drive from Ao Nang Beach.

I stayed there during my first visit and really enjoyed the quiet atmosphere and laidback vibe.

To be honest, the beach isn’t the best for swimming but I loved walking along the beach every evening and watching the sunset far from the crowds.

Although Nopparat Thara isn’t as touristy as Ao Nang Beach, you’ll still have access to all the necessary facilities like restaurants, shops, and convenience stores.

The Ao Nang Landmark Night Market is also located here so you won’t have to go very far for cheap Thai food. They also have evening entertainment like fire shows and live music every night.

Tip: If you need to get to Railay, you can take a longtail boat from this location instead of going to the Ao Nang Beach pier.

Recommended places to stay in Nopparat Thara Beach:

Mid-Range:

Holiday Ao Nang Beach Resort: Located right across the beach, the hotel features three swimming pools, including one with water slides. They also have a kids club and separate units for adults. Check rates here.

Krabi La Playa Resort: Located along a quiet road, only about a 5-minute walk to the beach, this hotel offers rooms with double or twin beds as well as family rooms that can accommodate up to 4 adults. The hotel also has a massive swimming pool, restaurant, and gym. Check rates here.

Budget:

Buri Tara Resort (Blue Tara): I stayed at this hotel during my first visit and highly recommend it for those looking for a quiet place to stay. It’s located less than a 5-minute walk to the beach and features spacious rooms with a private bathroom, mini-fridge, TV, and air-con. There’s also an outdoor swimming pool. Check rates here.

The Krabi Forest Homestay: This is the perfect place to stay on a budget with cute little bungalows set in the middle of a tropical garden. It’s located right between Nopparat Thara and Ao Nang, so you’re within walking distance of both beaches. The rooms are simple but clean and are equipped with air-con, private bathroom, and balcony. Check rates here.
