4 Island Tour

One of the best day trips from Krabi is without a doubt the 4 Island tour.

The Krabi Province features an abundance of islands with the most popular ones being Chicken Island, Koh Poda, Koh Tub, and Koh Mor.

Sunbathing on soft white-sand beaches flanked by huge limestone cliffs, swimming, snorkeling among hundreds of colorful fish, and hiking to a viewpoint are among some of the best experiences you can have during a 4 island hopping tour.

Taking a guided tour is definitely the cheapest option as hotel transfers, lunch, drinks, fruits, and snorkeling gear are included, plus the boat will also make a stop at Phra Nang Cave Beach in Railay.

Alternatively, if you’re traveling with a group, you can hire a private longtail boat to take you to the islands.

Note that since the islands are located within a national park, you’ll need to pay an entrance fee of 200 baht for adults and 100 baht for children.

Tiger Cave Temple, Emerald Cave, and Hot Springs

Another popular day trip from Krabi is the Krabi jungle tour which includes visits to the Tiger Cave Temple, Emerald Cave, and Krabi Hot Springs.

It’s the perfect combination of fun, adventure, and relaxation. After conquering over 1,200 steep and uneven steps, you’ll arrive at Wat Tham Suea, commonly known as Tiger Cave Temple, where you can enjoy a panoramic view of Krabi.

The hike should take between 30 minutes to one hour depending on your fitness level.

The Emerald Pool is a clear-water lake that can be reached by hiking along a short jungle track. Within the same area, you’ll also find the Blue Pool but swimming isn’t allowed in this one since the water is too hot.

Not too far from the Emerald Pool are the Krabi Hot Springs, a series of waterfalls and pools with temperatures averaging 35-40 degrees Celsius.

Entrance to the temple is free but the Emerald Pool requires an entrance fee of 400 baht for adults and 200 baht for children while entrance to the hot springs costs 200 baht for adults and 100 baht for children.

If you’re on a budget, I recommend booking this guided tour as all entrance fees, hotel transfers, water, and a tour guide are included in the price.

Alternatively, you can hire a private taxi for the day for about 2,000 baht excluding entrance fees.

Hong Island

If you’re looking for an island tour from Krabi, I highly recommend visiting Hong Island.

It’s located about a 30-minute speedboat or 45-minute longtail boat ride from Ao Nang and is one of the most beautiful places in Krabi.

Surrounded by giant karst cliffs, Hong Island boasts soft white sand, a turquoise lagoon teeming with colorful fish, and a spectacular 360-degree viewpoint. But the main attraction is the Hong Lagoon which is best visited during high tide.

Guided tours of Hong Island are available by speedboat or longtail boat. They are the most cost-effective option as the price also includes hotel transfers, food, drinks, snorkeling gear, and visits to Pakbia Island and Lading Island.

Otherwise, can hire a private longtail boat for about 2,500 baht or take the public longtail boat which costs 500 baht per person.

Note that the public boat will only depart once there are at least 8 people and will only take you to Hong Island and Lagoon.

The national park fee for Hong Island costs 300 baht for adults and 150 baht for children.

Koh Phi Phi

A day trip from Krabi to Phi Phi Islands shouldn’t be missed if you want to set foot on the world’s most beautiful beach, Maya Bay.

Jump on a boat and make your way to this iconic beach featuring the bluest water and softest sand enclosed within towering karst mountains.

Swimming is no longer allowed to preserve the ecosystem but it’s well worth a visit. And if you’re lucky enough, you might even spot some Blacktip reef sharks that usually swim near the shore.

Keep in mind that entrance to Maya Bay costs 400 baht for adults and 200 baht for children.

During your day trip to Koh Phi Phi, you’ll also visit Bamboo Island, snorkel in Phileh lagoon, snap some pictures with the Monkeys at Monkey Beach, and finally end the day at the beautiful Ton Sai beach on Phi Phi Don. I

Ao Thalane Kayaking Trip

For a less popular Krabi day trip, you might consider kayaking at Ao Thalane, located about 30 km north of Ao Nang.

You can choose to go either in the morning or afternoon but the morning session is much better in my opinion as it’s more peaceful and less hot at this time.

Plus, you’ll have a higher chance of spotting the wildlife that lives among the mangrove swamps and high-rising karst cliffs.

Railay Beach

If you’re looking for a cheap and easy Krabi day trip, then I recommend visiting Railay. You can easily get there by taking a longtail boat from Ao Nang for only 100 baht each way. Read this guide to find out how to take the longtail boat.

Once you get to Railay, you can enjoy the beaches – there are four of them namely, Railay West, Tonsai, Railay East, and Phra Nang.

You can also rent a kayak and explore the cave formations but the most popular activity on Railay is rock climbing which allows you to admire Railay from a bird’s eye perspective.

Other things to do on Railay include visiting Phra Nang Cave which houses a collection of wooden phallic shrines, hiking to Railay viewpoint and princess lagoon, and exploring the Diamond Cave.

There are many restaurants, bars, and hotels in Railay so you can also spend a night or two there if you’d like.

James Bond Island

Another fun excursion in Krabi is to visit James Bond Island. Its most prominent landmark is the vertical limestone rock which was featured in the James Bond movie “The Man with the Golden Gun”, hence the name James Bond Island.

Since it’s located about 50 km from Krabi, it’s best visited on a speedboat tour. This James Bond Island speedboat tour will take you to James Bond Island, Koh Yao Noi (one of the most underrated and laid-back islands in Phang Nga Bay), and Hong Island.

Hotel transfers, national park fees, snorkeling gear, lunch, fruits, and drinks are included in the tour price.

Tab Kak Hang Nak Hill (Dragon Crest Mountain)

About 18 km from Ao Nang is Tab Kak Hang Nak Hill (also known as Dragon Crest Mountain) which makes for a great adventurous day trip from Krabi.

Entrance costs 200 baht per person. The hike is quite steep and challenging but worth it for the panoramic views of the Krabi jungle and nearby islands.

If you’re renting a motorbike, it should take about 30 minutes to get there from Ao Nang.

You can also hire a private taxi for about 1,000 baht or join this guided tour which includes a morning hike at Dragon Crest followed by an ATV and kayaking trip.
