Where is La Mariposa Mauritius?
La Mariposa is located on La Preneuse beach, on the west coast of Mauritius. It’s about a one-hour drive from the airport or a 50-minute drive from Port Louis.
The main draw of this accommodation is its location on the beautiful white-sand beach of La Preneuse overlooking Le Morne Brabant. It’s also one of the best sunset spots on the island!
The location is very convenient with lots of restaurants nearby as well as a supermarket about a 3-minute drive away. Furthermore, there’s quite a lot to do in the area such as beach hopping, island hopping, and hiking, making La Mariposa Mauritius the perfect base for your trip to Mauritius Island.
They have two parking lots that can accommodate about 15 cars. The bus stop is found along the main road and can be reached within a few minutes’ walk.

About La Mariposa
La Mariposa offers different room types for couples, families, or groups of friends.
In total, there are 34 rooms, 14 of which feature a kitchen including 10 standard rooms facing the pool and four sunset rooms facing the ocean and Le Morne mountain. The remaining rooms are slightly smaller (about 25 m2) and have either an ocean or garden view.
If you’re traveling with a group of friends or family, you have the option to book either an apartment or garden suite, both of which have two bedrooms.
There are so many reasons why you should book a stay at La Mariposa Mauritius. First off, for the central location with a great selection of restaurants and supermarkets nearby. Also, the little private beach in front is deserted most of the time so it feels very secluded.
Next up is the in-house restaurant, Korail Rouge where you can indulge in the most delicious local and international dishes while taking in the view of the ocean. Finally, you can take a dip in the infinity pool that overlooks the ocean! Pure bliss!
The Room
I stayed in Sunset Room number 2 which is located on the first floor. It’s definitely one of the best rooms since it directly faces the ocean and has a great view of Le Morne Brabant.
Another thing I liked about the room is that I could admire the sunset from the comfort of my private balcony which had a table and two chairs.
The room is very spacious and has a minimalist yet modern look with some blue accents which give a nice beachy vibe. I also loved the large windows which allowed plenty of natural light in.
The bedroom features a comfortable king-size bed, two nightstands, a small couch, wardrobe, safe box, TV, and a full-length mirror. There’s a ceiling fan and air conditioning as well.
If you’re traveling as a group of three, you can still book this room and request an additional bed.
Next to the bedroom is a fully-equipped kitchen with a gas stovetop, microwave, kettle, fridge, sink, tableware, and cutlery, including all the necessary cooking utensils you would need to fix up a meal. There are also some cleaning supplies available.
In the kitchen, you’ll also find some tea bags, instant coffee, sugar, and creamer which get restocked every day.
If you’re traveling to Mauritius on a budget, having your own kitchen comes in very handy as you can save a lot on food. The closest supermarket is found about a 3-minute drive or 10-minute walk away making it easy to stock up on groceries.
Finally, at the back is a modern bathroom with a hot water shower, toiletries, hairdryer, sink, toilet, and a drying rack.

Facilities
Korail Rouge Restaurant
The in-house restaurant, Korail Rouge features an outdoor dining area overlooking the ocean with a massive tree in the middle that lights up at night. If you’re traveling with your significant other, it’s definitely the perfect spot for a romantic dinner.
Breakfast is served from 8 a.m to 10 a.m, lunch from noon to 3 p.m and dinner from 7 p.m to 10 p.m. Their menu consists of a mix of Mauritian, European, and Indian dishes including vegetarian options. The restaurant operates on a casual dress code so no need to dress up.
During my stay at La Mariposa, I opted for the full board package so I got the opportunity to taste a wide variety of dishes. Everything I had was delicious and the portions were huge so you’ll definitely be full after eating there.
On the first day, I had an English breakfast which included an omelet (or any egg of your choice), bacon, sausage, sautéed mushrooms, and baked beans served with toast on the side. I also had a bowl of fruits with yogurt, coffee, and fresh pineapple juice.
The next day, I had a continental plate with some toast, turkey hams, cheese, pastries, and overnight oats with fruits. Everything tasted excellent and kept me full until lunchtime.
For lunch, they provide a set menu with a great selection of dishes from pasta to curries, salads, and burgers. I ordered a Caesar salad as a starter, a shrimp tagliatelle with pink sauce as the main course, and a panna cotta for dessert.
On another occasion, I had a homemade beef burger with some fries and salad on the side and a delicious crème brûlée for dessert.
Finally, for dinner, I had a seafood vol au vent, grilled chicken with fries, and some mini éclairs. The next day I opted for a spinach quiche, chicken curry, and tapioca served with ice cream.
During the weekend, you can also enjoy some live music performances while eating your dinner.
Swimming Pool
The infinity pool is found beside the restaurant and overlooks the ocean. The best part is that it gets heated during winter which adds a nice touch of luxury and comfort on a cold gloomy day. The pool isn’t too deep making it ideal for children.
There are a few chairs next to the pool or you can relax on the sun loungers near the beach.
Library
The reception office opens up to a small library with a great selection of books in several languages including English, French, and Dutch.
Security
There’s a security officer who guards the property to ensure that everyone feels safe during their stay. For extra security, all bedroom doors are locked automatically.

Places to visit near La Mariposa
Staying at La Mariposa Mauritius guarantees that you’ll be close to all the top attractions in West Mauritius.
A few of them include Black River Gorges national park, one of the best hiking spots in Mauritius, Albion Lighthouse, Tourelle du Tamarin, Casela Nature Park, Martello Tower, and Ile aux Benitiers and Crystal Rock both of which are great for snorkeling.
Apart from La Preneuse beach, there are also plenty of other beaches nearby like Flic en Flac, Wolmar, Tamarin, Le Morne, and Albion.
